Does Money Matter in Dating?

I just read an article published by the AP about dating during the recession and the dating problems that men are dealing with after being laid off.

I was a little bit surprised by the article because (and this probably has to do with the fact that I'm in college and almost no one has money in college.) I never thought money could be such an issue.

Shouldn't dating be more about the personal connection and less about the bill? Who needs to spend money to have a good time?

I mean maybe my opinion will change, I am going to be out in the job world in a year and at that point it is very possible that I will prefer dates that have financial security but right now, who needs money?

James and I are always on a budget so we seem to always choose what to do (or not to do) based on our checking accounts and often split bills at dinner. Yeah we think about the money but it just seems normal and right to us. Sure, on the first few dates he paid but at the end of the day I sometimes like our outings to parks or walks around the city more than a fancy dinner.

It's a really interesting article. I had a friend in high school that refused to EVER pay for anything with her boyfriend. I think it's kinda ridiculous in this day and age for women to never pay-I mean most of us are working now so we have money too. I love chivalry but it is the 21st century so it's time to move on a little bit at least!

There is this woman on Real Housewives of NJ who considers money extremely important. It totally comes off as trashy. However, I do think it plays a role. The key is,classy women do not publicize it as a factor.
